Pete Snyder Commits Funding to Open Schools Movement and Launches #OpenOurSchools Tour

Conservative Outsider Commits Funding to the Open FCPS Coalition

Charlottesville, VA – Conservative outsider and Republican candidate for governor Pete Snyder today announced the launch of his campaign’s ‘Open Our Schools’ tour.

As Pete meets with local Open Our Schools groups across the Commonwealth, he will visit some of the empty school buildings that have been shuttered for nearly a year, with no opening in sight, thanks to the failed leadership of Governor Northam, Terry McAuliffe and the extremists standing in the way of reopening.

In addition to the tour and to represent Pete’s commitment to opening Virginia’s schools, Pete, his wife, Burson, and fellow Virginians have committed six figures of funding to support the Open FCPS Coalition. The Open FCPS Coalition is working to recall failed members of the Fairfax Board of Education.

Pete and Burson are committed to helping local Open Our Schools groups across the Commonwealth secure the support and resources they need to get our children back in the classroom.

Snyder said, “The fight to open our schools isn’t in November, it’s now. Leaders lead, and that’s why I’m grateful for everyone who is joining our cause to save our children while the career politicians spend more time renaming schools than reopening them.”

Opening Virginia’s schools is even catching bipartisan support in the Virginia Senate. Senators Dunnavant, Morrissey, and Petersen documented their concerns about the school closures in the Richmond Times – Dispatch earlier this month. They wrote:

“It’s frustrating to look back at how we got here. On March 12, Gov. Ralph Northam ordered the closure of Virginia’s schools, citing his emergency powers under the Virginia Constitution.

“The effects of school closure have led to highly disparate impacts upon Virginia’s school population. Within poor communities, the results have been catastrophic. That is no surprise as working-class and low-income families lack the means to hire private tutors or stay home from work to manage children in their online studies.”

Due to the failed leadership of Governor Northam, Terry McAuliffe and the other Richmond extremists kowtowing to the unions, the vast majority of Virginia’s public schools remain closed even though the CDC and President Biden’s own Coronavirus Task Force both say it’s perfectly safe for schools to be open. Our students and Virginia parents need help now and Pete and Burson Snyder, along with pro-teacher, pro-open advocates will provide resources and help right now when it’s needed the most.

Last week, Pete released the first television advertisement of his campaign leading with one central message: career politicians have failed the Commonwealth, and Pete Snyder is the conservative outsider Virginia needs to open our schools and restore commonsense leadership to Richmond. The ad is airing statewide and is backed by a six-figure buy.

Pete will work with local Open Our Schools groups and support local recall campaigns on school board members who are ignoring the science and standing with the unions to keep our kids out of their classrooms.

Pete recently slammed extremist Democrats and special interest groups for keeping schools closed, despite the fact a recent study by the CDC found little risk of transmission in schools when appropriate precautions like masks and distancing are utilized. The researchers concluded, “There has been little evidence that schools have contributed meaningfully to increased community transmission.”

Pete Snyder announced his candidacy for Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia in January 2021. Pete is a small business champion and conservative outsider committed to exposing the systemic incompetence in Richmond and disrupting the status quo. Pete is a small business owner, an innovator, and a problem solver. A true pioneer, Pete started his first company, New Media Strategies, the first social media marketing company in the country, when he was 26 years old. Over the years, as an angel capital investor and CEO of Disruptor Capital, Pete has helped found and grow many small businesses in Virginia and across the country.

When those in charge in Richmond failed to lead us during this pandemic, Pete and his wife Burson stepped up. Together and with the help of friends and neighbors the Snyders created the Virginia 30 Day Fund, a zero-overhead, non-profit organization that has helped save more than 1,000 small businesses across Virginia and more than 2,500 small businesses across America. Their 30 Day Fund efforts have raised more than $40 million to date, and every single dime of that goes to help keep hard working heroes afloat and their small business dreams alive. This is the very kind of new leadership, new energy and innovative thinking Pete will bring to Richmond to restore common sense and get Virginia leading again.

Pete, who has been a World Championship level certified BBQ judge (which the Washington Post’s Politifact rated as “100% True”), is the proud owner of Pete’s Pig Rig, the most infamous BBQ smoker in the Commonwealth. Pete, his wife Burson, his six-year-old daughter Bee, and their puppies Willie and Waylon live in Charlottesville, Virginia.
